Victoria Mends

Currently pursuing my Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at New York University, where I’m developing advanced expertise in AI for healthcare, medical imaging, and data-driven health innovation. After graduating with a first-class degree in biomedical engineering from Academic City University, my passion for strengthening Africa’s healthcare systems grew even stronger, especially through the practical, scalable power of AI. Particularly interested in how AI can enhance diagnostics, clinical decision support, and health accessibility.

Recently presented a poster at the Ghana Data Science Summit 2025, sharing insights at the intersection of AI, health, and data for development. Beyond academics, Victoria is deeply committed to social and community impact. Nothing brings me more joy than watching young girls, especially from rural Ghana, step into confidence, curiosity, and opportunity through STEM. As a cross-functional team leader, She organized and led national events such as the 2023 and 2024 Ghana Robotics Competition, which brought students from all regions together for a 3-day national robotics challenge.

She also led the Girl Get Up Seminar 3.0, an empowerment platform equipping young women to embrace growth and maturity. Mentorship is one of my greatest callings. I’ve mentored and continue to mentor dozens of university and high school students, supporting their academic journeys, STEM development, and of 4 personal clarity. She founded the Scholars’ Project at Academic City University, running academic bootcamps in maths, science, and programming for students who needed extra support. She also initiated the first-ever NSBE ACity Chapter. Victoria shared my story and work on notable platforms, including being a two-time speaker at the Google Developer Group Ghana Annual DevFest.
